財団法人木村産業研究所内に1942年に弘前ホームスパン（有）として設立後、民芸運動の柳宗悦・河井寛次郎らの勧めによりこぎんの資料収集・基礎的研究を始め、1962年に（有）弘前こぎん研究所と社名を変更して現在に至っています。青森県の伝統工芸品にも指定され正しい技術の継承とこぎん刺しの普及、製品販売に努めています。
Hirosaki Kogin Institute was originally established as Hirosaki Homespun LLC on December 3, 1942, within the KImura Industry Institute. Soetsu Yanagi and Kanjiro Kawai, the main protagonists of the folkcraft movement, suggested to collect research material and conduct basic research of the indigenous "kogin" embroidery. The name of the organization was change in 1962 (June 7, 1962) to the present name, to promote and hand down authentic "kogin" embroidery techniques, and to sell products.
