Sumikobo Apple Studio was established in Heisei 16 (2004) with 5 million yen capital and three sta members, and trades mainly with department stores in Aomori prefecture. Main products are creative sumi (charcoal) art objects from apples, baskets and accessories using sumi. The buisness started as a joint research project with the prefecture's research center in 2002, resulting in successful production of apple charcoal in 2003. In 2004, the project succeeded in producing commercial creative charcoal from wood ceramics. Sumikobo Apple Studio has its largest strength in creating sumi art objects.
